Minimum age limits
5K runners must be over 13 years old (under 16s must be accompanied by an adult).
10K runners must be over 16 years old.
The route is very scenic taking in meadows, woodland tracks, small hills and occasional narrow paths over streams. Most of the trail is undulating with one or two more challenging short hill climbs. 10K runners will complete the 5K route twice. It's so good you'll want to do it again!
The event is open to runners of all abilities. You don't need to be really fit to take part but trail running does require a basic level of fitness. The event is a social run, however if you want to beat your PB then go for it plus you'll get a time and a medal! We are a running event and it is intended that runners take part. If you want to walk the 5K course that's OK, but please start behind the main runners and give others right of way if they need to pass you on narrow trails. There will be a cut off time for everyone to finish by 12 noon. You must agree to the terms and conditions emailed to you before the event.
Performance times & medals
Each runner will receive a finish time and medal at the end of the event.
Footwear, belongings & headphones
We are hoping for lovely Summer conditions, however if it is wet, or the ground is soggy, we suggest you wear suitable running footwear or trail shoes with good grip. We do not have a bag drop area but the start line is next to the car park so there's no distance to vehicles etc. You are welcome to wear headphones, however due to the nature of the run route and terrain we do not recommend wearing them as it makes it difficult to hear both fellow runners and event marshals instructions.
Food court & bar
After the trail run, all runners are welcome to join us at the Orbit Fitness Festival bar and food court where you will be able to buy some well deserved food and drink. Each runner is welcome to bring up to 4 guests into the walled garden. Here you will find our bars serving a full range of drinks including local Hobson's ales and ciders. For all drinks we have quality plastic, re-useable pint cups which you purchase for only £1 and keep forever. There's plenty of tasty food options including pizza, pasta, burgers, Indian street food, pancakes, coffee, ice cream and juices.
Family & friends
Up to 4 family and friends are allowed to join runners after the event in the Orbit Fitness Festival walled garden food court and bar area. Wristbands will be given after the run.
We have made every effort in our risk assessment to ensure we have mitigated against potential risks and we will do a health and safety briefing before the race start. We will have marshals and first aid stewards on the day who will be there to assist you in case you do get injured. If you get injured on a remote part of the course please inform a fellow runner to inform a marshal. We recommend you don't take part if you have an injury or are recently recovering from one.
Dogs are not allowed on the trail run or in the walled garden food court and bar area. Guide dogs can be with their owner anywhere onsite.
Toilets & showers
We have plenty of clean, well maintained toilets onsite plus a shower block. As the showers are fully serviced throughout the weekend there will be a a small charge of £3 per shower token, two for £5 or five shower tokens for only £10. There are no other changing facilities.
We love help! Without a crew of volunteers we would not be able to make Hopton Court Trail Run the beautiful event it is. Perfect if you are unable to take part or have family and friends running. There are several roles available including run marshals assisting the runners along the route whilst running themselves, static marshals out on the course or water station assistants. If you would like to join the volunteer crew then message us HERE via our FACEBOOK event page. As a volunteer you will also have access to the food court and bar areas after the run. There are a limited amount of volunteer spaces available so please get in touch ASAP!
