We’ll guide you up a carefully selected series of short but testing climbing roads for good measure as your legs and blood will be pumping hard enough to keep you warm out on the road through Warwick and beyond. The hills here aren’t a major challenge but instead add to the free-flowing and rolling nature of the scenic wintry countryside.
From the Warwick Racecourse start point, you’ll be out and westbound as the route crosses the M40 and passes villages pretty and typical of the area, such as Langley, Little Alne and Alne End – which is the furthest point the course reaches before you’ll bear south, though not before stopping at the first feed stop, which is well stocked with hot drinks to stop you from icing over.
Continuing to head south, you’ll pass over the River Avon for the first time, and at around halfway point on both Standard and Epic loops, the sportive begins to head east and back to Warwick.
You’ll pass over the River Avon once more on the way back, as well as crossing over a series of quaint canals that line the quiet rural roads this route follows. Soon enough, you’ll have crossed the finish line back at ride HQ, where you can warm up with a complementary and seasonal glass of mulled wine, to be enjoyed with a smattering of Christmas music. After that, you can call it a day – and a year – for sportive riding.
