Wiggle Fontwell Freeze Sportive
Continuing to train for your sportive fitness over winter is one thing, actually getting out on the road and taking part in one is another matter altogether! This late November ride is for the hardened few that can hack the cold – so put the turbo trainer away, dig the thermal Lycra out and pit your wits against the elements in the Fontwell Freeze.
The route begins at Fontwell Racecourse and takes in the best the South Downs has to offer – giving you the unique chance to enjoy the best sights with a unique winter viewpoint. There’s a testing climb waiting for you after ever quarter of distance cycled, to be sure that your legs are kept warm throughout.
Rolling around on a brief loop out towards Barnham and Walberton, the route passes Fontwell once more before riders head out into the West Sussex winter wilderness and beyond. The quiet, unspoilt lanes of East Dean, Singleton and West Dean are explored one-by-one, before the ride lengthens and takes in more quaint villages in East Marden, Stoughton and Walderton – then heading north to Compton for one final loop until heading back to HQ.
Arguably the most challenging climb waits until last – around the East Lavant section of the ride – before you can cross the finish line to get your medal. We’ve got tea and coffee at feed stops throughout the ride to keep you warm while you’re in action, too.
